"Keypoint has allowed the Road Safety Unit to develop generic survey questions, which can be adapted for specific audiences. This means we can now control every aspect of the survey process." Wendy Jackson, Road Safety Unit, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council Overview of Dudley MBC Road Safety Unit Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council’s Road Safety Unit is part of the Traffic and Road Safety Section, Directorate of the Urban Environment. The Road Safety Unit carries out a statutory responsibility under the 1988 Road Traffic Act to deliver a program of road safety education, training and publicity. The aims of the Road Safety Unit are to help to reduce the number and severity of road traffic casualties and to raise awareness of the way people travel. They encourage people to examine their current mode of travel and consider its effect on the environment and their own health and well-being. Problem Needing Addressing Previously, the ICT section had developed
questionnaires that could be scanned based on
questions from the Road Safety Unit, and then Why Keypoint? Having used PinPoint, the predecessor to Keypoint, Dudley MBC was looking for a similar questionnaire design package. However, it was essential that the surveys could be scanned, as manual input would be very time consuming as they receive a large number of responses. Keypoint and the Scanning Module were the solution they were looking for. How Has Keypoint Helped Address the Problem? Keypoint has allowed the Road Safety Unit to
develop generic survey questions, which can be
adapted for specific audiences, for example Examples of Surveys Being Developed Dudley MBC Road Safety Unit is producing a vast array of travel surveys with the latest version of Keypoint (Version 4) including School Travel Surveys and a West Midland Authorities Travel to Work Questionnaire. Major Successes Resulting from Keypoint Results from questionnaires have been used as part of the Travel Plans Scheme, which have allowed schools to gain funding from the Department for Transport to improve school gate congestion and promote sustainable transport. Plans for Keypoint in the Future Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council plan to continue using Keypoint and, in the future, would like to extend their reach with an email survey campaign, using Keypoint’s Web & Email Module. They also plan to start an evaluation of their own services and resources. |
